A Brief Background

About Maggie

I am a single mom with two grown kids. I have a degree in Computer Science and have worked in that field for over thirty years. My life has always revolved around my family; my kids being my pride and joy. I am quick to explain to anyone how blessed I was to have had such a positive relationship with my kids as they grew to adulthood, and feel even more blessed now that, in adulthood, they have become my best friends and confidants.

My daughter, Haley, is the oldest. She has a degree in Journalism, but after working for a national news organization here in Washington, DC for four years, determined that way of life was not for her. She currently works for a pub managing the bar and producing local radio commercials in mid-western Virginia, but has kept her foot in the journalism door by working free-lance for her former employer.

My son, Buddy, enlisted in the Army during his senior year of High School and became Airborne directly after boot camp. He served with the Airborne Corps up until January 2015 when he began Warrant Officer Candidate School, followed by extensive training to be a helicopter pilot. Buddy has completed four deployments. The first two deployments were to Iraq. For these, he was Airborne infantry – which can be interpreted as front lines and most dangerous. By the third deployment (which was to Afghanistan), he had re-trained and switched to an IT billet. It was intellectually comforting to know he had moved away from danger, but that never really gave me much solace when he was overseas. He remained in that billet for the fourth deployment (also to Afghanistan) as well. His current billet of Apache pilot puts him right back at the front lines … only now he will be flying slightly above it, supporting the Soldiers on the ground doing what he used to do. Buddy is currently at the beginning of his fifth deployment
