I know that for some it is difficult to verbally express gratitude ... especially when it is deeply felt.  In fact, it is downright painful to watch them fail at their efforts.  They try to form the appropriate words, but no sound is made.  Their eyes might even be overly watery as they nod their heads trying to convey their sincere considerations, but to no avail. 

It is as if the words get stuck somewhere between their hearts where the words are born and their mouths where those words are supposed to fall out.  I know because I am one of that "some."

Even given that malady, I really wanted to at least try to express my undying appreciation for those who serve.  Our military are separated from their families for extended periods of time to travel to some of the most undesirable places in the world.  They spend birthdays, anniversaries and holidays away from everyone they love.  They work long hours without weekends in the blistering heat, often without a bed to sleep in when they get an hour or so to rest.  They face danger every day so that we back home can live in peace, and sleep soundly at night.  Above all else, they do this voluntarily.

Somehow “Thank you” just does not seem enough ... but right now that's all I got – that and my declaration of absolute support.  The only thing I can think of to make it better would be an invitation to everyone reading this to add their thoughts of appreciation to mine in an effort to make a simple thank you big enough to even come close to an adequate response to the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.  So take a moment to let the troops know that you care.  (And by the way ... to all the troops out there ... I look forward to hearing your thoughts as well.)
