Make no mistake about it. Despite its name and the content, this site is all about survival. And even though I might not be using that word in the traditional sense, I do believe I have employed an accurate interpretation of its meaning.

You see, I am the mother of a soldier, and not just any soldier, but Airborne … who now flies Apache helicopters! Since my only son “Buddy” joined the Army (just about one month before his 18th birthday) he has deployed to a war zone roughly every other year. The impact of this on my life has been a constant search for ways to survive the assault on my sanity caused by his absences. Enter the Blog!

Week 1 – The Beginning

Hi! My name is Maggie McCreath. A year ago this past March, “52 Weeks of Cookies” was released. Though this book covered the fourteen and a half months my son, Buddy, served in Iraq during The Surge (2007-2008), it did not reflect the years of angst before and after The Surge that my only son (one half of my progeny) cycled in and out of war zones (for a year at a time). A few years ago, however, he decided to fly helicopters … Apaches to be exact. A Heartfelt, Sincere Thank You

I know that for some it is difficult to verbally express gratitude ... especially when it is deeply felt.  In fact, it is downright painful to watch them fail at their efforts.  They try to form the appropriate words, but no sound is made.  Their eyes might even be overly watery as they nod their heads trying to convey their sincere considerations, but to no avail.
